Moltin wraps-up white hot 2018, accelerates growth heading into 2019
It’s January - one of my favorite times of the year. In addition to being my birthday month, this a time of the year to take stock on the past year and set goals for the coming year. For Moltin, 2018 was a record year across the board. Here are some of the highlights from our white hot 2018, and a preview of our plans to accelerate growth even further in 2019.
Moltin was founded by three rockstar developers who had spent their careers building eCommerce websites using traditional commerce platforms, and knew there had to be a better way. So they quit, founded Moltin, went through YC, and built an awesome, innovative product that is revolutionizing how commerce experiences are built and delivered. In late 2017, our founders set out to accelerate our expansion into the US market, so they sought out a premier US-based investor with strong commerce domain expertise. This led them to Underscore VC, where they also met Jamus Driscoll, who came onboard as CEO in early 2018 to lead Moltin through its next phase of growth. Jamus was an early employee at Demandware, helping to grow that company through their IPO and eventual sale to Salesforce.com. Now at Moltin, he’s passionate about building a company that empowers our customers to build and deliver innovative commerce experiences that delight their consumers.
We grew our customer base by over 800% YoY! Yes, you read that correctly… over 800%. To be fair, given our stage, I acknowledge there’s some ‘rule of small numbers’ action going on in that 800% stat. But still, any way you slice it, 800% growth is pretty awesome. We’re seeing a massive increase in MoM trial sign-up and paying customer growth.
We raised an A round of funding in Feb 2018 to fuel the next stage of our growth. We’re now putting this money to work to build a world class company.
New Product Releases
We run as a CI/CD shop, so we’re constantly shipping new capabilities to support our customers. Some highlights in 2018 include: innovative new approaches to taxes, inventory, receipt sending, order export, product variations, customer pagination and filtering, multi-lingual support, and promotion codes. We also launched a new iOS SDK, mobile self checkout pre-built solution, and Facebook Lookbook pre-built solution.
New Team Members
We continue to hire a team of rockstars to fuel our growth (in spite of the fact that I somehow snuck my way in :)). This year we grew the Moltin team by over 40% and brought on new team members across all departments - marketing, sales, product management, product development, customer success, and finance. We opened a new office at 133 Portland St in Boston, in the heart of one of the hottest tech hubs on the planet. It’s a great space - lots of exposed brick, nerf basketball, great tunes, free food/drink, and even homemade waffles on Fridays courtesy of our very own George Fitzgibbons! So what’s in store for 2019?
Well, in short, more of the same - more product innovation, more hiring, and mostly importantly, more maniacal focus on the success of our customers. We have a few exciting announcements up our sleeve, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted as things progress through 2019.
